Introduction to Coaching 5/2

These 2.5 hr courses are Zoom sessions with content presented live, involving interaction between participants and the presenters. The courses are for:

• Players who are interested in learning about how to deliver rugby activities during practices.
• Parents who are interested in offering assistance during practices. 
• Current coaches who want to review/refresh their understanding of the 'coaching process' and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their coaching.

COURSE DETAILS:

This course is the first step in becoming an effective communicator as a rugby coach. It is not the L200 Course and does not result in L200 Certification. This is an introductory course on the methods used to coach the sport of rugby, more specifically the 'coaching process'. 

It is a course on how to coach, not what to coach, and presents a systematic approach to delivering information and checking for understanding. This course:

• Allows member to act as Assistant Coach under a L200 Coach for a period of 12 months (after this you need to graduate to L200). Before Coaching a team, you will also need to be compliant with the US Center for SafeSport's requirements.
• Fulfils leniency criteria for teams needing a L200 coach who cannot complete due to COVID-19 or lack of courses in a particular area (application to USA Rugby for leniency must have been requested and approved prior to course attendance).

ON-COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

This course is an interactive education session. As such, please be prepared:

• You must have a working webcam and microphone functioning for the duration of the course. (If you disappear for long periods of time, you may be marked as not having attended the session)
• If possible, use a desktop/laptop in preference to a mobile device, as some activities are difficult on mobile devices.
